First of all - a new object has been brought to my attention. It seems that French Fries vending machines are popping up everywhere nowadays. My friend who is presently living on a university campus in the UK discovered one of those magic machines right in her cafeteria. I was suspicious in the beginning since I couldn’t figure out how one from human hand invented machine could store the fries in a freezer-like atmosphere - then deep fry them and then put them in a box, put salt and the optional ketchup and mayonnaise on them and the fries would actually taste like fries. But as I’ve heard from several sources now the fries aren’t supposed to be that disgusting - they can actually be eaten. I’ve also read that quite a few schools and colleges are putting these portable deep fryers in their cafeterias obviously to the dismay of quite a few supporters of healthy nutrition but anyway I applaud this trend and would like to put one up in my kitchen. Don’t get me wrong - I wouldn’t eat the fries all the time (yeah right) I would merely enjoy the presence of this heavenly object which is obviously the result of a highly intelligent technical revolution. I’m not really into fast food that much right now. It slows you down and is totally counter productive when you try to keep up a regular running schedule. But who doesn’t love the occasional basket of fries? OK I’m stopping now. I sound like a crazy person.
Back to TV: This is like the best week ever. Almost all the shows are coming back or have come back already and a lot of promising pilots are also premiering this week. I’m so busy all of a sudden and somehow I underestimated how many shows I have come to watch regularly. When someone comments on my love for the shows I respond that it is necessary for me to watch them so that I can write my blog, otherwise I wouldn’t watch that much of course… For some reason I’m especially anticipating the season premiere of ABC’s Brothers and Sisters on Sunday. It’s so refereshing and funny and they really had a fantastic first season. Didn’t miss this weeks episode of “Californication” and I think I should revise my original statement that it in some ways reminded me of Sex and the City (Shooting of the movie has begun last week btw) and that at least some scenes had this certain vibe. Apart from the fact that the numerous sex scenes which we were able to witness during the first 4 to 5 episodes seem to have been replaced by scenes of the everyday life of a writer who is desperately trying to figure out where his life is headed, the storyline has become less shallow and more serious. Maybe they just put the sex scenes in to get as much viewers hooked up in the beginning as possible. Hank is really trying to get back together with Karen, faces some trouble with his daughter Rebecca who seems disappointed in him for what - leaving her with the Cheese spectacle? I didn’t get that one and ultimately gets the perspective to make more out of his blog AND helps Karen get a new assignment. Well let’s keep observing and see how and whether this show will eventually establish itself.
“How I Met your Mother” is finally back and I had some good laughs. Loved gorgeous Mandy Moore and of course Barney was legendary as always. I especially liked the scene where Barney arrives back at the appartment after his and Ted’s night out together and Lily and Marshall have just noticed the butterfly-shaped tattoo onTed’s back. They mention this to Barney and he gets to tell Ted. The scene is really hilarious. To all my friends who aren’t watching HIMYM yet: Start watching the show already! The TV addict posted a Youtube link which will hopefully convince you.
Have to defrost myself now. I feel like in medieval times. There is no warm water in my appartment and the heating doesn’t work either. Gotta love the winter or what comes with it. Thank you mom for that beautiful und warm pink winter coat with fur which I didn’t intend to wear until perhaps November. Will be back to report on the fourth season premiere of House M.D. shortly.
See ya

So last night I watched Gossip Girl on the C.W. Highly anticipated by many - especially those like me who have been
mourning the loss of The O.C. over the last months. PLease visit www.gossipgirlonline.net for all information you may need. The plot in short form from what was to be seen in the pilot: The setting is Manhattan where privileged teenagers attend an elite private school and exclusive and fancy parties. The narrator is an anonymous blogger calling herself “Gossip Girl” who sees everything, has her spies everywhere and keeps everyone both inside and outside of the exclusive circles updated on the newest gossip. The narrater’s voice is no other than our dearest Kristen Bell’s a.k.a “Veronica Mars” a.k.a newest “Heroes” villain/superpower Hero. For a moment there in the beginning it was like watching Veronica Mars. I had totally forgotten that she had a narrating role on GG. The happier I was when I recognised the voice. At least we get to hear her voice - well until Heroes’ second season begins - then she becomes a superhero or something like that.
The writers are The O.C.’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage who, as I just saw on IMDB had also been a producer alongside Schwartz on The O.C. The main characters who have been introduced so far are Serena van der Woodsen played by Blake Lively (The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 1 & 2) who comes back from boarding school in Connecticut where she had ran off to after having slept with her best friend’s Blair Waldorf’s (Leighton Meester- we know her from House MD where she was the young girl Ali who tried to seduce House) boyfriend Nate Archibald (Chase Crawford). Nate still has feelings for Serena and would like to break up with his longtime girlfriend Blair but for his father’s sake who is trying to finalize a business deal with Blair’s volks he keeps the relationship going. By the way Meester (Blair) kind of reminds me of Minka Kelly who stars in Friday Night Lights. Think about it. In the pilot Serena meets Dan and Jenna Humphrey (Taylor Momsen and Penn Badgley) who live with their father (who is very young and playing in a band) in New York. It seems like the siblings are not “that” well off as are the rest of the characters. Jenna is trying to find her way into the popular circle at school while Dan is trying to hook up with Serena. They hit it off almost from the start.
So much for the plot. I like the show. Especially because of Schwartz’s handwriting all over it and Bell’s voice commenting like she did on Veronica Mars. Damn- I miss Veronica Mars. I swore that I wouldn’t watch the CW again because of what it did to my favorite detective but what am I supposed to do when they put her in one of their new shows. It would be wrong not to watch it right? As for now there isn’t really anything we haven’t seen before. It’s more like everything’s been put into a blender, mixed up a little and made into a new show. But not in a bad way and I also like the actors from what I’ve seen up till now. There was a strong O.C. vibe when unpopular and isolated boy (Dan) goes on a date with popular rich girl (Serena) and punches another rich guy (Chuck Bass played by Ed Westwick) in the face - saves his little sister and in the end gets the rich girl or so it seems. I also couldn’t help but briefly think about Hidden Palms, Mean Girls and even Veronica Mars - the latter was probably more due to Bell’s voice than because of the plot.
Oh and one should mention that again like in its predecessor the soundtrack is excellent. I think we can lean back, relax and give the show a couple of episodes to evolve. I’m quite confident that it will attract a great bunch of viewers. There’s a big void where Veronica Mars, The O.C. and perhaps also Gilmore Girls (not comparing Gossip Girl to Gilmore Girls although they both abbreviate with GG) have been and people will try to fill that void. I hope the C.W will give the only promising show they have on their program a legitimate chance. Isn’t it exciting - you can practically sense all the shows coming back from their hiatuses.
OK- good night!

Oh my oh my, was I excited to watch this year’s ”green” Emmys. It was sooo good to see all of the casts of our favorite shows back again after what seemed like an endless summer. I caught myself jumping up and down the sofa several times during the show, sobbing, laughing out loud, even clapping. My father must have looked at me a little irritated once or twice but who cares- I was in heaven!!!
The show was a blast and I loved the appearance of Ray Romano. I just mentioned to my brother a few days ago that it’s a shame that Mr Romano has had no TV appearances since “Everybody loves Raymond” went off the air. His speech was so hilarious and I was really confused when Fox pulled its first of three censors and interrupted Ray while he was
commenting on Kelsey Grammar a.k.a Frasier screwing his ELR wife Patricia Heaton on the new Fox comedy “Back to You”. I think I knew all relevant nominations by heart and there were some categories such as “Best supporting actress in a drama series” where I absolutely had no idea who I would vote for. I would have been happy for every nominee.
I must say that Jeremy Piven playing Ari Gold on “Entourage” is the most amusing and fabulous supporting actor on TV nowadays. I would like to quote an aquaintant by saying “Ari is the character that holds this show together.” It is my opinion that the show wouldn’t be the hit it is without Piven. Therefore I was filled with satisfaction when he was awarded the Emmy for “Best supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” Unfortunately the rest of the cast and the show itself missed out this year. Well there’s always next year and it’s like they say: “It’s really all about getting nominated”
The singing and dancing tribute honoring “The Sopranos” by the Jersey Boys was moving but then again also strange, seeing Adriana getting whacked again while listening to ” You’re just to good to be true” I was somewhat disturbed. When the whole cast was called on to the stage I cried and felt really sad that the Sopranos era was really over. As long as we’re with the Sopranos - Outstanding writing and directing went to both Chase and Tylor for their episodes “Made in America” (Don’t stop believing has been on my Ipod ever since) and “Kennedy and Heidi”. Of course not to forget the Oustanding Drama Series award in the end. I think everyone will agree with me that this award went to the right show. The cast came on stage again and I cried - again.
I was really looking forward to the announcements for Best Actor/Actress in both a Drama and a Comedy series. As for Sally Field getting the Emmy for B&S- she very much deserved that award since I love the show and the acting in it. Her acceptance speech was memorable and I loved how Fox censored Mrs Field when she said “If the mothers ruled this world there would be no god damned war” Everybody knew what she was saying anyway.
The big upset was the Best Actor in a Drama as well as in a Comedy Series. The Drama award: I was prepared for Hugh Laurie to receive it, I hoped that Gandolfini would get it, even would have granted it to Sutherland but for James Spader to finally get it- hm I didn’t know what to say. But the Boston Legal star knew. He claimed that he felt like he had just stolen a pile of money from the mob and indeed the scene was funny since the whole black suited cast of the Sopranos sat behind him looking at him. I hoped the comedy award would have gone to Shalhoub or to Baldwin but instead it went to Ricky Gervais for “Extras”.
My ultimate moment of happiness came when 30 Rock received the “Outstanding Comedy Series award. I loved Tina Fey’s speech and I hope this award gives the show a push in viewer numbers. I also heard Edie Falco say on the recycled red carpet that she will star on 30 Rock. That’s spectacular!
There were many more fantastic moments. I will definitely watch the show again. Next week the Hiatus is over and all will be good!
