About Shoes and Tans

 Harrods in London

Today is one of these days. The sun is shining and you can sense that summer isn’t too far away. My appartment has these really big windows so that you can sit down on the window sills and chill in the sun. Which is what I planned to do. So I seized the time with a bottle of cold beer and have been working on my first tan of the year ever since.

I remind myself of these prostitutes that sit in their windows in some German cities or in Amsterdam waiting for customers. Of course I am far from being a prostitute just to clear that up. Last Saturday I bought a few pieces of the new Madonna H&M collection part of which I am presenting the passers-by presently.

Normally I don’t leave that much money at H&M because the quality sucks whenever I buy something and I’m upset afterwards but these clothes are really nice and one is even out of 100 percent cashmere. I’m also listening to the new song of Snow Patrol called “Shut your Eyes” which is totally cool. I like it even more than the previous Greys song “Chasing Cars”. My mistake is that I listen to songs I like over and over again until I can’t hear them anymore which is what is about to happen with this song. I’ve listened to it like for the 89th time.

Quite a few days have passed since our trip to London. First of all - although I already am lucky to be living in a beautiful city London was even more overwhelming. We didn’t have enough time to visit all the standard sites so we walked around Piccadilly Circus and Regent Street and eventually ended up at Harrods - which is where I want to live for the rest of my life. It is like paradise and so exquisite that you will never forget your visit and will be coming back for more. The decorations and the design are amazing. The service is perfect and the whole atmosphere is somewhat enchanting.  All the items are displayed with so much love for the detail that you don’t know what to look at first. The next time I’m in London I will definitely stay in the store all day and then I will be wandering the streets which is what you should be doing when you visit a new city.

Now to the bad but for me very typical part: During my stay at Harrods I was even able to find a pair of boots which was affordable and absolutely beautiful. I was so happy, bought them and put them in my father’s suitcase. Late in the evening when we had arrived back home totally exhausted and had survived the return flight I tried on my boots. I wondered whether one of my feet had swollen from all the walking that day or what other reason there could be that one boot was way tighter than the other.

Then I noticed it: the sales assistant had packed the wrong shoes and had given me an odd pair. After talking to quite a few sales people at Harrods the next day I sent my pair of boots back to London and am now more or less patiently waiting for them to send me a new pair of boots. I hope they will! They promised!

Well, at least my boots got the chance to go to Harrods one more time :-)

My favorite Mistake

Yes, I survived my London trip and I must say it was amazing and way too short which means I will have to go back there soon and take in the whole city. But more to my trip later. I gotta talk about Greys Anatomy first:T.R. Knight

This episode was all along excellent. I want to write about George and Izzie first since they were the dominating “couple” tonight. The acting was convincing, the emotions came across and you could totally identify with both characters. To initially let George have a blackout about the night he slept with Izzie was a perfect way to continue this storyline. Izzie is all shocked, confused about the previous night and can’t believe that George has just forgotten all about it. But while Izzie is running through Seattle Grace wondering what to do and acting weird around her friends George’s memory returns in the middle of his lunch with Callie and her rich father. The flash backs catch him by surprise and make him stand up to Callie’s father which makes him win back Callie.

The moment when George and Izzie are in the broom closet is so intense and overwhelming. It is obvious that Izzie is dealing with new feelings for George she didn’t know she had. I’m not so sure about George’s feelings though but he definitely has to deal with the guilt of having cheated on his wife. I give it 2-3 episodes until Callie finds out. The remarkable thing about this show is and I haven’t seen that in another show before: it shows characters that make real mistakes. Mistakes that happen in real life and while you watch them do them you sometimes have to turn away because it is so wrong. But these things happen.

I was totally against this George/Izzie storyline in the beginning but the writers have once again proven that they are able to create greatness over and over again. Jon Lachonis brings it to the point in his article and I couldn’t agree with him more when he says “This is where Grey’s really proves itself; in just about any prime time drama adultery is something that just happens. I totally feel for Izzie. Who of us hasn’t been there before? You have the perfect friendship with someone and then this happens and at least one of you discovers feelings which change the friendship forever. In most cases the friendship eventually comes to an end. I have been there several times which makes me a strict defender of the theory that man and woman cannot be friends.

The other characters were equally brilliant this week. Mark’s confidence even makes him more sexy which is unbelievable. His reaction to Meredith confronting him about the motive for himto let her scrub in on Jane Doe’s face was so honest and refreshing and when he won the board over and was joking around with them all suited up I was drooling all over the sofa :-)

Alex has been revealing a whole new very sensitive and sweet side these past episodes and there is  so much chemistry between him and Addison. I wonder who will end up with whom. I found a nice recapon this epi here.

Christina seems to be settling for marrying Burke and I guess there was a metaphor there when she had to amputate the patient’s foot. Something about looking into the future. I was probably too tired to process this. Perhaps when I watch this episode the second time.

All in all this episode was one of my favorites. I thought about Gregory Kirshling’s “too many characters” theory and it is probably true. But all the characters are brilliant and I wouldn’t want to kick one of them out. I only see one solution - change the episode time to 84 minutes per week. This way everybody would have enough time to shine.

About Disgusting Movies and Flying to London

Barbara NedeljakovaMy dad and I are flying to London today. Just a short trip to celebrate the persian New Year with my cousin, her husband and my aunt and uncle. I haven’t been in London since I was seven so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m also sort of scared of flying but everythings better than to sit in my office all day - I guess. The paradox is that I love planes and - for a girl - know quite a lot about planes and aerodynamic, technical backgrounds etc. I don’t know why but the more I know the more I’m scared to get on a plane.  Anyway, my partner and I are having a fight right now so it’s the right timing to get out of the office for a couple of days.

Yesderday I stumbled across a trailer of the movie Hostel 2. I was psyched since I didn’t even know they were shooting a sequel! I loved hostel part 1 although I had my hands covering my eyes throughout all the scary parts. The movie is totally disgusting and I don’t normally dig these king of horror flicks but this one fascinated me. I loved the actress Barbara Nedeljakova who plays one of the girls in the hostel and I liked that this movie actually had agood storyline. Maybe not that realistic but good.  I’m very much looking forward to Hostel Part 2.

Due to this stupid hiatus keeping me from watching some of my favorite shows I have started to watch the 24 season 2 dvd which was excellent - even the second time. Now I’m starting with season 3. I think Tony Almeida is so sexy. Why don’t I get colleagues like him? Anyway my father is also in the 24 fever so anytime you ask him to do something he responds with “copy that!” It’s funny.

I read something on TV.com/Reuters about the next season of Veronica Mars and that the writers are thinking about letting her skip the next college years and sending her straight to the FBI academy. They have sent some scripts to the Network or are planning to. I think that’s a cool idea although I can’t imagine what kind of plots they will use. Something like “The Silence of the Lambs” would be nice. I love that movie. Or something like Twin Peaks. Let’s wait whether the CW likes the idea.

Oh, important news on 30 Rock and  a possible second season - read here.

Okay, have to go back to my work. I will report about my London trip in few days.

Greys is Back!

Was this weeks episode of Greys fabulousIzzie Stevens or what? I enjoyed every second even the second time I watched it. Thank you Deborah Cahn who wrote this one. It was all about the character`s this week. No major accidents (except for maybe George and Izzy) just tons of perfect scenes, fine acting and funny lines.

Meredith has obviously recovered from her near death experience with the realization that it`s all about the people which leads to her inviting Alex to live in her house and to take George`s room. Meredith is also dealing with her mother`s death but seems to cope pretty well (how many days has it been?) while George finds out that the hotel room he is living in with Callie costs $2500 the week and that his wife is loaded.

Meredith and her father make some first small steps in each other`s direction when they have dinner at the Grey`s residence. Christina`s former boyfriend the famous Cardiologist Colin Marlow shows up at Seattle Grace which gives Burke some insight on Christina`s past. The result is that Marlow tells Burke about Christina`s point of view on marriage and her aversion against it. She clarifies that she wants Burke happy and that she`s not dating him because of his skills and his reputation.

I loved a lot of small scenes in “Scars and Souvenirs” like Christina and Meredith hiding from figures of their past in the broom closet. Like Alex walking into the bathroom where Izzie`s standing naked. Meredith and her stepmother (forgot her name) at the dinner table. Christina just running into Meredith`s bedroom in the beginning. Meredith and Christina sleeping in one bed in the end. The interns during their lunch break. Perfect Grey moments

Bailey doesn`t have a lot of scenes this week but her new haircut is well-noted. She`s the only one who doesn`t get all caught up in the run for chief. Addison hardly had any scenes either. I liked that they`re not pushing the Alex/Addison thing any harder. Alex who is so hot lately that I seriously hope for him to get back together with Izzie is spending a lot of time with his Jane Doe. I hope they are bringing her husband into the picture pretty soon. We`ve had the storyline “intern gets involved with patient” already and I do not need to see that again so soon. The scene with Izzy and Alex was so cute when he kissed her on the cheek…

During the fight of our married couple which resulted from the fact that Callie kept her family`s fortune a secret Callie accused George of having a thing for his best friend who he had indirectly (over Meredith) told about the money. I was already suspecting the worst then but watching him act on it was just the weirdest thing. Even I would have learned out of the mistake my friend (in this case Meredith) made and not repeat the same mistake again. But then again everyone has to make his own mistakes.

When George leaned in to what we all knew was to kiss Izzie I was like “no no no” But shit happens. Sometimes you do things or you know you`re about to do things that are so wrong and you still let it happen. Liked Elizabeth Chan`s article I have been in this situation. You`re friends, you fight, you try to make up, you make out. Everythings weird after that. I hope they won`t repeat the Meredith/George storyline though.

I was totally with Greg Kirshling this week especially about Katherine Heigl´s brilliant and diverse acting. Regarding the storyline of Derek and his former med. colleague played by Shohreh Aghdashloo (24 4th Season, The Lake House): actually these tumors are called meningiomas. I was once told by a Neurosurgeon that if you have to have a brain tumor it should be one of those.

I`m so glad Greys is back. All my favorite shows going on hiatus caught me by surprise this time. At least Greys is back and 30 Rock has me cracking up in front of the tv every Thursday. It`s like the funniest show on television since Arrested Development.

Thursday

So I haven’t had the time to write for some days. My job is keeping me occupied until late into the evenings which I guess is a good thing. After work today I will go to an After Work Club to relax a little from all the exhaustion. Anyway, I was so busy with work and low on cash that I had the glorious idea to cut my own hair - with paper scissors! I thought it didn’t look that bad but my self protection program kicked in and I lay down the scissors and went to the hair dressers shortly afterwards. I even found a perfect replacement for the girl who used to cut my hair who has decided to study now which left me confused and desperate for a few months. I hate when your hair dresser decides not to cut hair, especially your hair anymore. It’s like when Fox took the O.C. from me. Okay almost like that. The replacement is really good though and she really scored points Tina Feywhen she said that I hadn’t done such a bad job with the scissors.

Enough about my hair which looks fine now :-)

Today is Thursday and no Greys or O.C. in sight which is a situation I’m still coping with (mostly the O.C. part). Some news came out about the Greys Spin Off developments. Also I read about I. Washington and that he questions whether he will be back on the show next year and some background information on the salary issues of the cast members. All in all a lot is happening behind the scenes and no one really has a clue where this is all heading.

A new Thursday night show has me hooked to the TV for a few weeks now. NBC’s absolutely funny and witty comedy show 30 Rock featuring Saturday Night Live’s Tina Fey and surprisingly funny Alec Baldwin. Apart from his appearance in Will & Grace I had never pictured Baldwin to be funny enough to star in a comedy series but his character in combination with Tina Fey is so freaking funny that I could see this show all night long. And the show is even getting funnier with every episode. Liz Lemon is like my role model now and I can totally relate with her. Usually I wait to watch new shows until at least their second season. Then I rather catch up than seeing them be cancelled after a first season. Hopefully 30 Rock doesn’t get cancelled for a long time.

This and That

Veronica Mars

Yesterday evening after working way too long I watched Gilmore Girls followed by Veronica Mars. I couldn’t help but wonder about Rory and Lane’s friendship. It was as far as I’ve followed the first time during Lane’s pregnancy that Rory spent time with her. At least that’s what the producers made us think. I considered it phoney when Rory became all sentimental during the party because the way I see it the two friends have shared no time or interest in each other for the last year except maybe when Rory attended Lane’s wedding. And Rory is so focused on Logan and her career that she doesn’t notice anything else right now anyway.

Lorelai was like the perfect mother and friend to both her daughter and to Lane. She’s obviously keeping herself busy and distracted in order to cope with the Christopher break-up. But I guess they will not keep us waiting for the next L&L storyline for long.

It was appreciated that the whole town was involved in Lane’s baby shower and therefore we had some entertaining moments with Kirk, Loulou, Miss Patty and co. I’m too tired (allergy pills) to recap everything that I liked or that bored me. I liked AmyD’s recap since it pretty much reflects my opinion on “Would you be my Lorelai Gilmore”

To a very brilliant Veronica Mars,  I so suspected that Tim Foyle was Dean O’Dell’s murderer and I normally suspect everyone but the murderer so I was happy to see Landry’s assistant go to jail in the end and proud that I for once lay right with my suspicions. From the beginning of this season Tim behaved like he was hiding something and it was just a matter of time until he was accused of some sort of crime. And wasn’t Veronica brilliant during class when she counted one and one together and suddenly realized who the real killer was and kept asking smart questions and it was totally clear where she was heading.

Unfortunately Landry can’t be spoken free of all charges since he “accidentally” killed Mindy Odell on the yacht she bought from her husband’s live insurance money. I am glad that they didn’t drag this mystery on for so long. I just read Jon Lachonis’ post on this episode and he says it became pretty clear who was guilty and who wasn’t so maybe I wasn’t that smart after all…. but I swear I had this “aha! he’s the killer” moment which I haven’t had before on VM so I’m sufficiently satisfied

Oh and I was relieved that Parker at least made an attempt not to date Logan and stop hanging out with him because the last thing I remembered was that Parker and Veronica were friends and at least in my circle of friends we don’t date our girl friend’s very recent ex-bfs.

I totally felt for Veronica when Logan asked her whether he could go out with Parker. Can’t he give our girl a break for a while and for once maybe stay on his own and study for a change?? Well, I guess we will see what happens soon.

I have been reading all about the gossip this week about Heigl not renewing her contract and then about the studio stating that everythings fine and that Heigl will remain a part of the cast and then the news that the cast members have been resenting and avoiding Kate Walsh ever since it was decided that she get her own spinoff.  What is it with my favorite show and all the recent negative gossip. It is starting to become annoying. Then I read this post on www.tvaddict.com and it practically put my thoughts into words:

Quote Can we all agree that we’re tired of the behind-the-scenes gossip from the set of GREY’S ANATOMY? This TV Addict says forget about Katherine Heigl and the entire cast. The only woman who deserves a raise (and a medal of honor) is showrunner and GREY’S creator Shonda Rhimes. How she manages to keep all these egomaniac actors in check while at the same time turning out twenty-two fantastic episodes is a remarkable feet in itself. ” unquote

By the way I love and totally appreciate that tvaddict.com has the “Farewell O.C. banner on the first page.

It’s Thursday in the meantime and no O.C :-(

Have to sleep now- more tomorrow…
