About Spinoff Theories, Love and saying Farewell

Kate WalshI certainly don’t know whether the news about a Greys Anatomy spinoff is a good or a bad thing.  Kate Walsh definitely has the skills to pull it off. In fact I guess if one of the Greys cast members can do it it’s probably her. The spinoff who’s 2-hour pilot will most likely be aired in May will star and focus on Addison Montgomery (without the Shepherd) as the neonatal surgeon played by Kate Walsh and will be written by Shonda Rhimes. Then I just read this article by Mike Bruno that Taye Diggs has been tapped to star in the spinoff.

I think there’s something to Annie’s theorie that Rhimes will introduce Diggs within the episodes of the remaining season and to transitionally let him star in the Addison spinoff. Then she can  quietly write out Washington at the end of the season and then replace one afro american with another should the spinoff not hit it off.

This theorie might be overly conspirational and I would be quite upset if Rhimes wrote Washington out of the show but it still makes you think. What I consider more logical though would be if she put Washington in the spinoff if she wanted to get rid of him. I was wondering about spinoffs. Are they always such a good idea? It seems logical for producers and writers to want to transfer the success of one show to another but are spinoffs such a guaranteed money source?  Isn’t a certain amount of risk involved when you write a spinoff  and it fails,  doesn’t  that put the whole series under a bad light? I will get into this and report afterwards.

I just startet to watch “The Holiday” with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet wenn this first monologue by Winslet can be heard and I just had to interrupt the movie and write it down.

„…and then there’s another kind of love, the cruellest kind, the one that almost kills its victims. It’s called unrequited love. Of that I am an expert. Most love stories are about people who fall in love with each other but what about the rest of us – what about our stories – those of us who fall in love alone. We are the victims of the one-sided affair, we are the cursed of the loved ones, we are the un-loved ones. The walking wounded, the handicapped without the advantage of a great parking space.

Yes - I can relate. The worst Christmases, the worst Birthdays, New Years Eves. These years that I have been in love have been the darkest days of my life. When you love someone  who does not and will not love you back…”

I’ve also felt like this in the past and it was weird for somebody to speak it out in the beginning of a movie.

Tonight is the last episode of the The O.C. We have been prepared for this day for some weeks now but it still hurts and I will celebrate this last episode and think about all the nice memories I have. I wanted to write down a list of my favorite scenes, episodes,  songs etc. but I will do that after the series finale. I found a nice listing on EW just now and will share my own here shortly.
